Join us
The Canterbury Philharmonia is always delighted to welcome new members to the orchestra. Playing membership is open to all musicians, but a proficiency of Grade 5 level or above is recommended. Any person who plays an appropriate musical instrument and wishes to become a member should contact the Secretary.
Joining process
Prospective members will be invited to attend a rehearsal. If they wish to join they must attend rehearsals for a concert and perform in the concert, on probation. On completion of the probationary period, the committee will consider award of membership, in consultation with the appropriate section principal.
Rehearsals and concerts
The orchestra rehearses on Monday nights from 7.30pm at Aldersgate, Durham St Methodist Church, Christchurch. Three concerts are held per year with approximately 12 rehearsals preceding each concert. There is usually a break from rehearsals for one to two weeks following each concert.
Subscription
Members of the orchestra pay a subscription, which for 2022 is $250 per annum. The 2024 subscription will be set at the AGM in March 2024.
