The Canterbury Philharmonia is always delighted to welcome new members to the orchestra. Playing membership is open to all musicians, but a proficiency of Grade Five level or above is recommended. Any person who plays an appropriate musical instrument and wishes to become a member may apply for playing membership by completing the form available from the Secretary. Usually new players are invited to complete a four-week probation period.
We play on Monday nights from 7.30pm at the Christchurch Horticultural Society Hall in Hagley Park. Three concerts are held (usually in May, August and late November). We rehearse weekly from February to December, with a two-week hiatus following each concert.
Players in the orchestra pay an annual subscription. Currently this is $100.00 a year (a student discount is available). Subs can also be paid per term by arrangement.
Repertoire is ambitious and varied; the orchestra plays a wide range of music from different periods and in different styles.
For more information (or to visit us at rehearsal) please contact the Secretary.
